"Monks Mood" the folks at Collings let me borrow a fantastic OM1-JL (Julian Lage model) guitar and it's amaaaazing. A bit difficult to play but as Julian says in the Collings promo video it rewards players who make the extra effort. I was just testing the mics on this but it turned out well so I kept it. I hope to record an albums worth of material by the end of 2018.
"Resolution" this was recorded on a failrly cheap Takamine for the "Hymns" all acoustic recording I made for Yohsio Maki back in the 90's. I recorded part of it in LA (where I met Steve Cardenas who plays on a few tracks) and part in Brooklyn at Jim Clouses Park West studios. This is the Coltrane tune from "A Love Supreme" recorded in Brooklyn.
"Satellite" from about 1999-2006 I played very often at a dive jazz bar in Manhattan called Detour. On Sunday nights the Mike Magilligan trio consisting of Mike (drums/leader), Masa Kamaguchi (bass) and me would play mostly odd meter arrangements of standards. We were very influenced by Jochen Ruckert's "Introduction" recording. Those were some of the best times I've ever had and the whole gang at Detour were like my family, musically and personally. Detour closed in 2006, Masa moved to Barcelona, I moved to Austin. I miss those people and those times - every fucking day.
"Joe" from Fragment. Loved playing with these great musicians.
